Dear Napster Action Network Members:
We need your help. On May 17th, the House Judiciary Committee will be
holding a hearing to discuss the future of on-line music.
Unfortunately, Napster has not been asked to testify at this
hearing. We hope you will call, email, or fax one or more members of
Congress on this committee and let them how much you value Napster,
and remind them that Congress should take action to prevent the
record companies from shutting Napster down.
As members of the Judiciary Committee these Members of Congress will
help oversee the development of legislation to bring balance to the
laws governing the delivery of music over the Internet. Please
contact as many of them between NOW and Wednesday of this week. If
one or more of them are from your state, please make a special point
of calling that member (toll free) and letting them know where you
are from.
Please Tell Them:
* I am a registered voter and one of the millions of Napster users
who continue to use the service.
* I live in your district/home state (if applicable).
* I believe that Napster has revolutionized the music industry and
the Internet.
* Napster represents a competitive threat to the record labels.
That is why the labels are trying to use the courts to shut
Napster down.
* Napster wants to see songwriters and artists get paid for their
music, but the labels still refuse to license Napster.
* If Napster users are willing to pay a subscription fee, Congress
ought to find a way to make that happen so that Napster can
continue to exist.
* I hope that you will keep the thousands of Napster users in your
district and the millions of users from across the country in mind
as you consider how best to address this issue.
