I don't know much about this particular cause but on the surface it looks
like a good idea to me. I've personally never bought the idea that
"Bush's tax cut goes to the richest", I mean of course it does, and
should, they pay the most taxes. Yeesh.

However the amount of taxes going back to most people is so trivial (I
think I get $300) and yet amounts to so much country wide ($300 x
population of usa = 84 billion dollars) that a lot of good could be done
with it.

Hell we could hook up a couple schools with MSN for that!

Adam.

PS. Numbers quoted by me are an "off the top of the head, best attempt",
execpt for the population of the usa which really is 281,421,906 (1 April
2000).

** Redirect Some of Your Rebate for Tax Justice **

Dear Friends:

The rebate rebellion is rolling with recent stories in Fox News, NPR's
Marketplace, Newsweek, and dozens of daily newspapers around the country.

You may have just received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service
about your tax rebate. If you are like us, the message is bittersweet.
On the one hand, this is real money that could pay debts, buy kids' shoes,
and cover the bills. On the other hand, this rebate is a sugar pill meant
to get us to swallow the whole Bush tax cut, which is really a windfall
for the wealthiest one percent.

So here's one way to protest...

Log onto our web site: http://www.rejecttherebate.com.

1. Read the inspirational comments from the hundreds of people who have
   already signed onto our petition.

2. Sign the petition. Tell us why.

3. If you are able, redirect some or all of your tax rebate to organizing
work for social change. We have suggestions on the web site of local
and national groups that need our support.

If you like poetic justice, donate some or all of your rebate to The Fund
for Tax Fairness at the New York-based Funding Exchange and your rebate
donations will be used to fight the implementation of the most regressive
elements of the Bush tax cut. In the past, the Fund has funded
progressive fair tax groups like Citizens for Tax Justice, Tennesseans for
Tax Justice and Californians for Tax Reform.

THANKS, and please spread the word.

Chuck Collins,
United for a Fair Economy
