Apologies for those of you who try to stay as far away from politics as
possible, but I thought that this was of a timely enough nature to justify
a heads-up.
Apparently, Microsoft has been calling thousands+ trying to get them to
write to the DoJ in favor of dropping the antitrust case against them
before the end of the public comment period required by the Tunney Act. We
were just called here at the lab and they asked to speak with our head of
IT. The young lady who answers to that title told me that the caller was
*extremely* insistent that she write on behalf of MS, and even gave her a
web site to get a boilerplate letter from. She was a bit put off by the
caller, and even a little concerned that it might be her "duty" to write
(She's a recent Japanese immigrant and is a bit underprepared to deal with
pushy American types).
I told her she did the right thing by politely refusing his request without
knowing all the facts.
Then I went and did a little digging - imagine my suprise to discover (on
Slashdot) an article about this very topic! Also pointing out that the
deadline for the public comment period of the Tunney Act is *this*
Saturday, the 27th.
If you care at all about this topic, I urge you to write to the DoJ in the
next two days!
Here's the /. article as previously mentioned - the comment section
contains many well written letters for your inspiration:
