As much as I admire Google I'm a little disappointed that they didn't
stand up to the Scientologists on this one.

Just FYI,

Andreas Heldal-Lund, webmaster of www.xenu.net, got a DMCA
notification letter from Google earlier today. In the letter, a long list
of URLs were listed as infringing, and Google apparently complied
with the DMCA request by removing them. You can see the letter

Of course this opens up a huge can of worms regarding whether or
not mere links are infringing.

We removed certain specific URLs in response to a notification
submitted by the Religious Technology Center and Bridge Publications
under section 512(c)(3) of the the Digital Millenium Copyright Act
(DMCA).  Had we not removed these URLs, we would be subject to a claim
for copyright infringement, regardless of its merits.  The URLs
included in that notification are attached to this email. Pursuant to 
sections 512(g)(2) and (3) of the DMCA, you have the
ability to submit a counter notification, in which event we can
reinstate the material.  As stated in section 512(g)(3), the contents

States, for any judicial district in which the service provider may be
found, and that the subscriber will accept service of process from the
person who provided notification under subsection (c)(1)(C) or an
