Indymedia isn't without it's faults, the largest being that it's hard to
know which stories are posted by reputable well meaning people and which
ones are posted by biased whack jobs. However they are working on it
and in the mean time it's still news you often can't get anywhere else.

They are doing a great job and for you open source haxors out there that
want to lend a helping hand this might be something that tickles your
fancy.

FIGHT THE MAN!

Adam.

Geeks Can Change The World

I know you've all been to indymedia.org right? Right?! They started in
November 1999 to offer coverage of the Seattle WTO protests, and have
evolved into a worldwide grassroots news gathering and reporting system.

I discovered today that they offer a section of their site geared for us
open source geeks that want to help fight the man. Contribute code to
their publishing engine, join an IRC meeting or a mailing list and help
them build the infrastructure that will allow people all over the world
to fight the good fight.

They have a great Open Publishing model and use php/mysql software to
offer local indymedia sites like portland.indymedia.org and
jerusalem.indymedia.org . (Warning: that jerusalem site is rather
disturbing in some areas. If you don't want to look at corpses of
Palestinian women and children, I suggest you head over to Spin City for
news more orientated at us burger-eating, SUV driving, terrorism-hating
Americans.)
