I'm not sure movie reviews are really what this list is about but how
could I not post Colin's review when he wrote it specially for us? :-)

I promisied Adam a short review after seeing the midnight screening.
There will probably be some spoilers here for those of you who haven't
read the books, so read the books before you watch the movie..

Overall I found it better than the first movie, but it isn't something
that should be watched without the first movie (and preferably the
books) as a reference. The plot moved quickly, jumping between several
different sub-plots. Despite the tension the second movie is steeped
in, there were plenty of humorous moments to break the utter scilence in
the theater.

The second book brings on many tough cinimatic challanges, such as
golum/smeagol 's internal conflict, and the ents, all of which Peter
Jackson handled masterfully. Both were digitally rendered and done
quite well, although there is still something missing, it is becoming
harder and harder to place it. The battle of helms deep is something
worth witnessing again and again. It puts to shame every other mideviel
battle I have ever seen on film. And this was the small battle. The
charichers grew, and relationships deepend. You can feel the situation
resting on the edge.

I'm going to probably see it again later this week. I think we may have
a contender for movie of the year. And as I walked out of the theater
this morning, I couldn't help but think how far away it is until The
Return of the King.
