More Women Encounter 'Shoe-Sniffer'

Some people will do anything to get their hands on a decent pair of shoes
-- too much, according to one woman in downtown Pittsburgh.

Patti Cohen says she was walking along Smithfield Street Thursday morning
when a man kicked the back of her foot so that it came out of her shoe.

"He goes, 'I'm so sorry. Are you OK?'," Cohen said. "I went to grab my
shoe and, before I got to it, he had it in his hand and up to his nose. I
said, 'Give me my shoe. I'm calling the police, you weirdo.'

"You feel like you were assaulted, but you're really not. I'm almost
grossed out to wear my shoes. Do the police have to fingerprint them?
Should I buy new ones?"

Cohen said the man was a clean-shaven man in his 50s, about 5 feet 9
inches tall and 175 pounds, with mustard-colored hair. He was wearing a
print T-shirt, blue work pants and tennis shoes.

Another similar incident was reported Thursday morning. No information on
a suspect or victim was immediately available.

Things had been all quiet on the local foot front since June, when two
women claimed they had been targets. One said a man removed her shoe and
licked her foot outside Donzi's in the Strip District, and another said
the same thing happened to her downtown.

"He needs some help. He really does," Cohen said of her foot fan. "He's a
sick individual. If you've got a fetish, go buy shoes and smell them on
your own time."
